About Crystal Colloidals

Most colloidal zinc is not what it claims to be. Crystal is.

Most products sold as colloidal zinc are ionic zinc — zinc sulphate, zinc chloride, zinc gluconate — and the difference matters. A zinc ion is a charged form of the metal rather than the metal itself; it behaves chemically like a dissolved compound. Metallic zinc does not dissolve in water. Ionic zinc does, because the ionic form is water-soluble.

Genuine colloidal zinc is different. It contains actual metallic zinc nanoparticles, suspended in water rather than dissolved into it. Producing it properly requires specialised equipment and a controlled process to keep those particles intact, stable, and evenly distributed without clumping or settling. It takes longer and costs more, which is why most producers take the simpler route.

Crystal Colloidal Zinc is clear and colourless because zinc nanoparticles do not absorb visible light the way coloured metallic colloids do. The visual proof of quality for clear colloids is the absence of cloudiness or turbidity: cloudy products contain particles outside the nanoparticle range. Crystal has been producing genuine colloidal zinc this way for over two decades, and every batch is independently verified before it reaches you.

Questions and answers

Everything you need to know

What is the difference between colloidal zinc and ionic zinc?
Ionic zinc is a solution of dissolved zinc ions in water — typically zinc compounds rather than free mineral. True colloidal zinc contains actual physical zinc nanoparticles suspended in water. The vast majority of products sold as colloidal zinc contain ionic forms. Crystal contains genuine 99.9% pure zinc nanoparticles, 20 nm in size. A genuine colloidal zinc is clear because zinc nanoparticles do not absorb visible light, but it should not be cloudy. Cloudiness indicates particles outside the nanoparticle range.
Why is 10 PPM better than 500 PPM?
PPM measures zinc concentration by mass and nothing else. A high PPM number tells you nothing about particle size, particle count, or whether the zinc is ionic or colloidal. Our 15 PPM formula with 20 nm particles contains stable, well-distributed zinc nanoparticles in suspension. The number on the label is not the whole story — particle size and stability matter more.
What if I do not notice any effect?
Individual experience varies considerably. What we can guarantee is the quality of what is in the bottle: particle size, particle content, purity, and the absence of any additives. Our lab certificates confirm this for every batch. If you have questions about application methods or personal use, we are happy to help via our customer service team.
How do I verify this is genuine quality?
Three things. First, the clarity: genuine colloidal zinc is clear and colourless, but it should not be cloudy. Cloudiness indicates particles too large to remain in stable suspension. Second, the absence of foam: shake the bottle vigorously, persistent foam above the liquid means protein binders are present. Crystal produces no foam. Third, our downloadable lab certificate, available on this page, shows the Dynamic Light Scattering particle measurement data and ICP-MS concentration data for the specific batch — measured by the Institute of Public Health in Ostrava (ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, AZL 1393).
Why is colloidal zinc clear?
Zinc nanoparticles do not absorb visible light the way metallic nanoparticles like silver, gold, copper or platinum do — so a true colloidal zinc is clear and colourless. For zinc, the visual indicator of quality is the absence of cloudiness or turbidity. Cloudy products contain particles too large to remain stable in suspension, or are mixed with other compounds. Crystal Colloidal Zinc contains 99.9% pure zinc nanoparticles in ultrapure water only.
What does your satisfaction guarantee cover?
We stand behind every bottle we make. If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, contact us and we will make it right. That might mean a replacement, a refund, or simply taking the time to answer your questions properly. We have been making this product since 1998 and our confidence in it is genuine. If it does not meet your expectations, we want to know.
What does for external use only mean?
Under European Regulation EC No. 1925/2006, colloidal zinc cannot be sold as a dietary supplement or food additive in the EU. This means we are required by law to label this product for external use only. This is a regulatory classification about how we can market the product, not a statement about its composition. We encourage you to research independently and speak with a healthcare professional with any specific questions.
